Tucson, Arizona – June 11, 2004
Zinifex Limited (formerly Pasminco Century Mine Limited) has chosen Modular Mining Systems' MasterLink® communications network as the next step in maximizing mine productivity at its Century open pit zinc mine, located 250 km NNW of Mt. Isa in Queensland, Australia.
Zinifex Century Mine chose the MasterLink® system to improve production monitoring, reporting, quality control, and other mine systems. The wireless MasterLink® network achieves this by increasing bandwidth and reducing telemetry congestion. The system attains an overall performance increase of 50-200 times over 9600-baud narrow-band systems and 10-50 times faster than 900 MHz systems. More data capacity reduces interference and promotes faster synchronization. That makes it easier to transfer information quickly and accurately between operations offices, field equipment, and personnel—vastly improving performance in key areas and freeing the mine from the restrictions of a hardwired network.
"Adding the MasterLink system opens the door for additional use of HP systems, vital signs monitoring, and the like," noted Eric Davidson, General Manager of Modular Australia. "By taking advantage of the latest technology, Zinifex Century Mine not only increases transmission speed, but also ensures it will be able to easily integrate next generation real-time productivity applications—strategically positioning the mine for future growth and success."
Zinifex Century Mine is currently expanding its fleet and will utilize the system on a variety of equipment including: 39 trucks, six drills, six dozers, five excavators, four face shovels, and 10 pieces of auxiliary equipment. Installation of the MasterLink® wireless network is anticipated to begin in June 2004.
