Phelps Dodge Sierrita Upgrades IntelliMine® System Tucson, Arizona – September 12, 2005 Phelps Dodge Mining Company, one of the world's leading producers of copper and molybdenum, has selected Modular Mining Systems to provide its Sierrita Mine with a major IntelliMine® system upgrade. The upgrade includes MasterLink® 11, an 802.11 b compliant wireless network for secure, fast and reliable communications, and MineCare®, an interactive maintenance management system designed to increase mobile equipment availability and reduce maintenance costs. Sierrita, which has successfully utilized the DISPATCH® system since 1992 to provide automatic optimized haul truck assignments and increase productivity throughout its fleet, will also migrate its current DISPATCH system to Modular's latest generation generic DISPATCH application to provide increased optimized fleet management and standardize data formats across Phelps Dodge properties. "With the increased bandwidth provided by MasterLink 11, Sierrita will be able to take advantage of the latest applications and technology, including MineCare," noted Anthony Cook, General Manager Modular North America. "MineCare will allow Sierrita to revolutionize the way it handles maintenance processes; contributing significantly to overall asset utilization and cost savings." Sierrita will employ the system on a variety of equipment including: 16 trucks, 4 shovels and 1 loader. The MasterLink® 11 network will include 9 APs and 4 shovels-as-APs. Commissioning and sign-off are expected to occur by September 2005.
