Mount Keith Upgrades IntelliMine® System

Tucson, Arizona – November 23, 2005

BHP Billiton's Mount Keith Operations (MKO), formerly WMC Resources, has selected Modular Mining Systems to upgrade its existing Rev D 1200-baud system to a state-of-the-art IntelliMine® mine management system. BHP Billiton is the world's largest diversified miner and largest producer of nickel-in-concentrate.

Innovation and applying new technology are nothing new to BHP Billiton. They are an integral part of its operations and competitive edge. MKO selected a full complement of IntelliMine® systems as a part of the technology upgrade during its recent fleet expansion to increase productivity throughout its site. IntelliMine® systems selected include the DISPATCH®, MasterLink®, MineCare®, ProVision® and PowerView™ systems.

"With the new systems in place, MKO will be able to improve operation effectiveness, planning and maintenance, while maintaining even greater reliability standards," noted Eric Davidson, General Manager Australia.

MKO will utilize the system on a variety of equipment including: 38 trucks, 5 shovels, 5 dozers, 4 drills, 2 loaders, 2 graders, and 3 water trucks. Additionally, 8 MasterLink® access nodes will be installed and a foreman vehicle will be equipped with ruggedized laptops that include IntelliMine® and MasterLink® utilities for controlling and monitoring the operation. Installation is currently underway.
